Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Man Exiting Vehicle Near Major Deegan

March 01, 2018 - 10:09 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was struck and killed Thursday morning, while getting out of his car in the Highbridge section of the Bronx. The other vehicle didn't stop.

A half-mile straightaway section of Sedgewick Avenue that parallells the Major Deegan Expressway is known as a place where people can park for free. It's also a place where cars speed through to get around the Deegan.

It was around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, when someone was racing through and ran down 50-year-old Troy Williams as he was getting out of his car.

His cousin George Johnson came to the scene.

"We're waiting to talk to the detectives, just trying to get the family together, an just trying to look for some type of closure. It's so new and so fresh, it's just tragic," he said.

Police don't have much description to go on, but they are reviewing cameras from a nearby construction site to zero-in on the driver.
