Off-duty NYPD officer, 56, fatally struck by truck while riding motorcycle in the Bronx

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The commanding officer of the NYPD Cadet Corps was killed in a motorcycle accident in the Bronx Monday morning. 

Twenty-nine-year NYPD veteran Inspector Michael McGrath, 56, the executive officer of the NYPD Academy, was off-duty when he was fatally struck by a truck while riding his motorcycle in the Bronx.



McGrath was a was heading south on E. Tremont Avenue when he was hit by a truck turning left onto Waterbury Avenue at approximately 8:15 a.m. in Schuylerville officials said.

McGrath was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition, but later died police said.

Authorities say the driver of the truck remained at the scene.

There are no charges at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
