NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A police investigation shut down part of the West Side Highway on Thursday, after shots were fired in the area.

The DEA was investigating what they called a large scale heroin organization in the Bronx, when a vehicle stop on the West Side Highway turned violent.

Authorities say the driver threatened an officer and officers fired shots at the suspect -- no one was hit.

"DEA was conducting an investigation into a large scale heroin organization in the Bronx. As part of that investigation, there was a vehicle stop on the Westside Highway. The driver threatened an officer and the public safety. The officers fired shots in his direction," a DEA spokesperson said.

Following the shooting, officers were looking for a Jeep with a missing bumper.

Authorities say they caught up with the suspect near an alleged heroin mill in the Bronx. The suspect was taken into custody, and additional arrests were expected as authorities raided the suspected drug location.
