NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A hero is finally going home.

Bagpipes played and an NYPD sea of blue cheered and applauded as Det. Dalsh Veve left rehab 11 months after being nearly dragged to death by a teen suspect driving a stolen car in East Flatbush, Brooklyn last June.

Veve, 36, suffered a severe brain injury and was clinging to life after the June 3 incident. He was promoted to detective while he recovered.

Veve left the Kessler Institute in West Orange, New Jersey Monday with his 3-year-old daughter Dashi on his lap and his wife Ester by his side.

Police Commissioner O'Neill said Veve has recently made noticeable progress, Al Jones reported. "I came out here two months ago and I'm absolutely amazed. He's whispering and he just gave us the thumbs up. We're hoping that he continues to progress and I think he will."

The teen suspect has been indicted for attempted murder.
