Heat advisory in effect, high in the 90s, will feel like 100 degrees

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) --  The brief break New Yorkers had from the scorching heat is over: A heat advisory is in effect for New York City, and parts of Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Westchester and Rockland counties, until 9 p.m., the National Weather Service announced. 

"A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time," NWS said. 

But showers and thunderstorms will cool things off later in the week. 

Tuesday will be hot and humid with sun mixing with some afternoon clouds. High 92, with AccuWeather ReelFeels around 100 in the afternoon.

Tuesday night will be warm and humid with a shower or thunderstorm. Low 75.

On Wednesday there will be intervals of clouds and sunshine; not as hot, but still humid with a couple of showers or thunderstorms in the area, especially in the afternoon and evening. High 86.

On Thursday expect clouds and some sun with a shower or thunderstorm around. High 86.

Looking ahead, expect some sunshine and a high in the mid 80s Friday.

Temperatures stay in the middle 80s over the weekend with a possible shower or thunderstorm each day.
