Always a great addition to the Thanksgiving table, you'll want your bakery-bought pumpkin pie to taste as good as the one from grandma's oven. And that's no problem when you order from one of these five New York City bakeries:

"Eat Well. Be Happy. Baked Loves You," is the motto of this Brooklyn bakery, which opened in 2005. Look for its bright red door between Wolcott and Dikeman Streets. Follow the autumnal cookie and cake aroma and step inside. If you can manage to look past the superb apple pie, your reward is one of the city's best pumpkin pies. With an outlet in Tribeca (and another in Tokyo's Isetan Shinjuku store), this bakery-cum-lab on the Red Hook waterfront is always experimenting to maintain perfection in cakes, pies, pastries and fillings. There are on-site and online classes for at-home bakers, too.

For a fresh, handmade, gluten-free (or not GF, if you prefer) pumpkin pie, get ye to the Lower East Side. Owner Petra "Petee" Paredez grew up in a pie-baking atmosphere with a family farm. With Mom's Apple Pie Company in Leesburg, Virginia in her DNA, Petee transplanted her classic pie skills to the LES in 2014. The recipe for this tasty version of a seasonal favorite involves roasting a variety of locally grown pumpkins and winter squash plus a 9-inch pinched edged pie crust made from made organic New York State flour and grass-fed butter. Not too spicy and not too sweet, every bite says Petee's pumpkin pie is made from scratch seven days a week. A new location is now open in Brooklyn.

A tiny Yorkville stalwart, this haunt is worth the trip to the Upper East Side. Two Little Hens does a creamy pumpkin pie made with brown sugar and brandy. There's also a pumpkin cheesecake with a killer crust made with molasses and crumbled graham crackers. Plan ahead. It's worth the three days' advance order to snag one or more of these autumnal beauties to take home. If you're eating a slice in, there's only a handful of cozy tables, so expect a line right out the door.

You've found a heavenly kitchen in the heart of Hell's Kitchen, where Little Pie Company has been producing scrumptious baked goods since 1985. Handmade from scratch, pinched golden brown crusts are bursting with flavor after being baked in small batch steel ovens. These pumpkin pies with locally-sourced ingredients are considered among the city's very best. Your choice of an 8- or 10-inch pie, or a seasonal fall sampler of four 5-inch pies to include pumpkin, can be picked up, shipped nationally or delivered within New York City.

It's a long way from the rural farm town of Hecla, South Dakota, where the wildly successful sister pie makers honed their pie recipes with Grandma Liz. But nearly 50,000 Instagram followers can't be wrong. Opened as a Gowanus coffee and pie shop in 2010, there's now a production kitchen and multiple locations located around the borough, including a café at the Brooklyn Public Library. A deft brown butterscotch touch produces caramel notes in this pumpkin pie to enhance the all-butter crust.
