HACKENSACK, NJ (1010 WINS) -- Police in Hackensack say a bank robbery suspect called a Lyft to make his getaway.

They've charged 22-year-old Drew Hughes of Hackensack with holding up the TD Bank branch on River Street, Tuesday afternoon. Cops say he pulled a knife and fled with $1,100.

"Hey gimmie the money, big bills only, it's for my daughter," he allegedly said.

Hackensack Police Captain said the money was equipped with a tracking device.

Cops say Hughes took off toward Main Street.

That's when a detective heard a radio transmission, and saw a person who matched the suspect's description riding in a vehicle with New York plates.

Officers pulled over the Lyft and arrested Hughes.

Busciglio said Hughes and the Lyft driver gave statements with Hughes admitting to the robbery.

Hughes was set to appear in court on Friday. He is being held in Bergen County Jail. His only previous charge in Bergen County was for harassment.
