NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Former Staten Island congressman Guy Molinari has died. He was 89.

Politics was his family's business. Molinari's father was an assemblyman. His daughter and son-in-law were members of congress.

Molinari was elected to the House in 1980. In 1990, he became Staten Island Borough President, and served until 2001.

He is famously credited with convincing Rudy Giuliani to run for mayor in 1988.

Molinari was a Republican, he was a lawyer, and he was also a Marine who served in the Korean war.
