World Cup Win Causes Gridlock Traffic In NYC

July 15, 2018 - 10:41 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Depending on if Croatia or France wins the World Cup Sunday, New Yorkers can expect to see traffic delays in either Manhattan or Queens.

If France wins, it’s expected that fans will take to the streets in Midtown, where there is a Bastille Day celebration happening on E. 60th Street, between Lexington and Fifth Avenues.

The celebration begins at noon and will feature a live broadcast of the game on a giant screen at Madison Avenue. If the French win, it’s expected that the celebration will only escalate in volume.

If Croatia wins, it should spark a celebration in Astoria, where there is a large Croatian population. Drivers can expect to see the worst delays on Steinway Street, but other nearby streets could also be affected.

No matter which country comes out on top, there’s sure to be a huge win today and drivers are cautioned to watch for pedestrians and other celebrators as the day progresses.
