NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A grand jury in Suffolk County indicted on Wednesday the NYPD officer and his fiancee who were charged last week with second-degree murder in the death of the officer's 8-year-old son Thomas after the boy was allegedly left overnight in a garage in freezing temperatures, subsequently dying of hypothermia.

The charges in the indictment against Michael Valva, 40, and Angelina Pollina, 42, were not specified when it was announced during a status conference in a Central Islip courtroom.

While the indictment was announced, a wake for Thomas was held at Mangano Funeral Home in Deer Park, where photos of Thomas were positioned throughout the funeral home.

Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini said after the arraignment of  Valva and Pollina, last week. "They evinced no regard for this child’s human life. They caused his death both by forcing him to sleep in frigid temperatures in the garage and then by failing to do anything to help him as he died right in front of their eyes.”

A mass is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Melville.
