NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Rudy Giuliani had some harsh words for his successor and Democratic presidential hopeful, Mayor Bill de Blasio.

In a radio interview Sunday, the former mayor tore into de Blasio, calling his 2020 run “hilarious” and referring to him by his disparaging nickname “Big Bird.”

“America will find out what New Yorkers know. When you call him Big Bird, it’s a compliment,” Giuliani said on the AM 970 radio show “The Cats Roundtable,” according to the New York Post.

Giuliani said he and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg left the city “in good shape,” but that he is “heartbroken” by de Blasio’s tenure.

“I mean, first of all, he doesn’t work. He doesn’t go to work,” Giuliani said.

De Blasio, who has been stumping in Iowa and South Carolina this weekend, officially kicked off his campaign on Thursday, joining a crowded field of about two dozen Democrats. He recently referred to himself as an “underdog” who can win “the whole thing.”
