NEW YORK (1010 WINS) –  Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones will get his first start for the Giants on Sunday as longtime starter Eli Manning is sent to the bench.

Jones was drafted with the No. 6 overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft from Duke.

Giants coach Pat Shurmur announced the move Tuesday morning.

“Eli and I spoke this morning,” Shurmur said on the Giants team website. “I told him that we are making a change and going with Daniel as the starter. I also talked to Daniel. Eli was obviously disappointed, as you would expect, but he said he would be what he has always been, a good teammate, and continue to prepare to help this team win games. Daniel understands the challenge at hand, and he will be ready to play on Sunday.”

The Giants lost their first two games of the season with Manning starting.

Manning had 556 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions in those games.

Manning has been the Giants starting QB since party through his rookie season in 2004 when he replaced Kurt Warner and has won two Super Bowls with the team, being named MVP in each.
