Funeral to be held for 15-year-old Brooklyn victim in Pearl River crash

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A funeral will held Tuesday for a 15-year-old girl who died in a car crash Sunday in Rockland County.

Saniha Cekic was killed when the SUV she was a passenger in hit another car in Pearl River, falling over an overpass onto train tracks below.

Hundreds of friends and family paid their respects at the Islamic Unity Mosque Monday night in Long Island City.

Some spent the entire night in prayer for the morning funeral.

Her grief-stricken father Began Cekic described his daughter as an angel, an honor student, hoping one day to become a doctor.

He told CBSNew York, “I can’t bear. I don’t know why is … my wife is broken down. She’s the only daughter I have. She’s a twin. My son … they’re only 15 years old. My son is destroyed."

She left behind a twin brother.

Altin Nezaj, 17, from Pearl River was also killed in the crash.

The driver, 17-year-old Aisha Radoncic, of Orangeburg was seriously injured by survived.

Cekic and Radonic were cousins and spending the weekend at Radonic’s parents’ house in Rockland County.

The driver of the other car was uninjured.

Police are still investigating the crash but have not found evidence of drugs or alcohol.

Cekic’s family will bring his casket to Millstone, New Jersey for burial on Tuesday.
