NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- You know that Amtrak Portal Bridge, the one that gets stuck and causes all kinds of delays for New Jersey commuters?

A GoFundMe page is raising money to replace it, but so far it's not raking in much -- only $5 in the first day.

GoFundMe: Replace The Portal Bridge!

"I would kick in to fix that portal bridge every day of the week," Sal from Monmouth County said. "It's taking me time and money every day just to get here."

Sal said he'd kick in $10.

The campaign is looking to round up $920 million.

“We’ve already come up with $600 Million already approved in bond financing in June of 2018, will only require $920,000,000!” the organizer wrote. “Yeah, I added 20 Million in oversight funding, but we are going to totally chew through that in no time, when this goes massively over budget.”

The bridge between Kearny and Secaucus was designed to let boats pass underneath, but in extreme temperatures has been known to close incorrectly, and ust be manually smacked into place with sledge hammers. The result has been a lot of stranded commuters.

On October 30, a malfunction caused 90 minute delays, and on November 14, a tugboat hit the bridge creating hour-long backups.

There's already $600 million in state funding committed to the project.
