NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Multiple cases of a mysterious illness mimicking the symptoms of polio are under investigation in New York State.

State officials could not reveal the details regarding the whereabouts in New York, ages, gender or any other identifying details about the cases.

Doctors are warning parents though to stay on high alert for any signs of numbness or fatigue in kids, especially when they may already be exhibiting symptoms of the common cold.

The four cases have not been linked to the dozens of confirmed reports of Acute Flaccid Myelitis, 40 cases of which have been confirmed by the state.

Acute Flaccid Myelitis causes children to lose feeling in their arms or legs and may also affect muscles used to breathe in rare instances.

The CDC has announced it is looking at 127 paralysis cases in 22 different states.

Health officials are recommending that people wash hands often and keep them away from their eyes, nose and mouth.
