Former NYPD, wife arrested in LI drug bust

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Nassau County cops arrested a Long Island couple for narcotics in North Merrick on Tuesday. 

According to Detectives, First Precinct Police and Nassau County Probation Department conducted a night watch probation check at the North Merrick residence of Kenneth Riggio 59, Faith Riggio 53, located at 1285 Meadowbrook road.

While inside the residence officers initially recovered over 200 oxycodone tablets, numerous Xanax tablets, eight clear bags which contained a white powder substance officials believed to be cocaine.

Riggio is a former NYPD officer and his wife is a teacher's assistant in the Bellmore-Merrick school district. 

A further search of the home revealed large amounts of U.S currency and a brown powdery substance believed to be heroin and a switchblade.

During a press conference Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said "It resulted in some really alarming objects for example this oxycodone along with switchblade knife, cocaine, brownish substance believed to be heroin, numerous Xanax, scales and hundreds glassine envelopes, and lets not forget the $146,000 in cash."

Kenneth Riggio is charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with intent to sell, 11 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

Faith Riggio is charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.
