LOS ANGELES (1010 WINS) -- Los Angeles police say a former NBA player who barricaded himself in his home and engaged in a gunfight is dead.

It’s unclear if the player took his own life or was killed by police. LAPD has not identified the man but multiple sources claim the player involved was Tyler Honeycutt, who played for both the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets.

At 5 p.m. on Friday, police responded to reports of a man with a gun in Sherman Oaks, California, and remained at the active scene through Saturday morning. It's unknown if the man threatened anyone.

Authorities say they were able to communicate with the man but the suspect eventually fired at officers from inside the apartment complex. Officers returned fire and were unsure if he was shot. No officers were injured.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene when LAPD officers entered the building.
