(1010 WINS) -- Fleet Week kicks off in New York Wednesday with the annual Parade of Ships taking over New York harbor, starting at 7:20 a.m.

Fleet Week is in its 31st year and continues through May 28.

Among the ships will be the USS New York, built with steel from the World Trade Center.

The USS New York is a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock and the fifth ship of the U.S. Navy to be named after the state of New York.

An amphibious transport dock is a warship that embarks, transports, and lands elements of a landing force.

Other ships that will sail past Pier 86, home of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, are the USCGC Lawrence O. Lawson, HMCS Glace Bay, HMCS Oriole and four USNA YPs vessels.
