A a red flag warning is in effect across the Tri-State area.

Temps in Central Park hit 90 degrees tying the record of 90 set back in 2001.

Surprisingly few people on the Garden State Parkway told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck they were playing hooky Wednesday, but at least one man had plans to get out and beat the heat.

"I'm going to pick up a boat about 50 miles away," Tom said, "I'm a retired police officer, so I worked enough... We're going to sail away and have our wives find us."

Things will be slightly more tolerable in coastal communities where it's supposed to reach the 70s.

More of the same is expected on Thursday, with a thunderstorm possible on Friday, before things dip off a bit over the weekend.
