NEW YORK (1010 WINS) It was New York's bravest to the rescue of a tiny kitten that, for sure, used up one of its nine lives.

The SoHo based Animal Haven shelter wrote in an Instagram post that one of their longtime volunteers was walking home on the Upper East Side when she heard the distressed meow of a tiny kitten. After quickly realizing it was coming from an SUV stopped at a light, she ran over and alerted the driver. The say the "kind gentleman" pulled over and opened his hood, but the cat was no where to be seen.  That's when the volunteer rang the bell of a nearby firehouse and the rescuers sprang to action.

AMAZING RESCUE! ❤️ One of our longtime volunteers was walking home on the Upper East Side when she heard the distressed meow of a tiny kitten. Quickly, she realized it was coming from an SUV stopped at a light, so she ran to the vehicle and alerted the driver. The kind gentleman pulled over and opened his hood, but after searching around, they could not locate the kitten. So our volunteer rang the bell of the @FDNY station nearby. “We have to try!” they told her, and came out prepared to help. They were able to locate the tiny kitten stuck in the wheel well if the vehicle and safely removed her. To everyone’s shock, the driver said he had driven all the way to the UES from Queens - so this little kitty had taken quite the ride! The group talked it over and decided to name the kitten Wunder, because it’s a miracle she survived this long ride trapped in the wheel well of a car. We are abundantly thankful for the people who came together for this lifesaving kitten rescue, including a volunteer, a kind driver and the wonderful firefighters of the FDNY’s Engine 22/Ladder 13/Battalion 10 on East 85th St! This group of heroes came together to save a life and they deserve all the praise! ------ Wunder is safely in a foster home for another few weeks (yay for fosters!!) until she’s old enough to be adopted. We’ll keep everyone posted on her progress! . . . #animalhaven #rescue #fdny #firedepartmentofnewyork #thankyou #animalrescue #rescuedkitten #kitten #kittens #purrfect #straykitten #straycat #totherescue #newyorksbravest #saved #uppereastside #fireman #firemen #firefighter #firefighters #newyork #newyorkcity #nyc

“We have to try!” Animal Haven says the firefighters exclaimed, and they rushed out to help. In the end, they found the kitten stuck in the wheel well of the vehicle (OMG) and safely removed her. Incredibly, the driver told the rescuers he had driven all the way to the UES from Queens.

After much deliberation, says Animal Haven, the group named the kitty Wunder, noting that it was a miracle she survived so long ride trapped in the wheel well of a car.

On Instagram, Animal Haven said they're "abundantly thankful for the people who came together for this lifesaving kitten rescue, including a volunteer, a kind driver and the wonderful firefighters of the FDNY’s Engine 22/Ladder 13/Battalion 10 on East 85th St! This group of heroes came together to save a life and they deserve all the praise!"

Animal Haven Executive Director Tiffany Lacey told 1010 WINS she thinks it was meant to be. "This little kitten was determined to get to the big city and find a loving home, so years later when (someone) adopts Wunder, you're going to remember what this cat went through, and just be amazed", said Lacey.

Wunder is now chilling at a foster home and will be put up for adoption when she's old enough. Animal Haven also promised to keep everyone posted, so as we say.. stay tuned!
