NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A father of four was struck and killed by a car outside his Brooklyn apartment on Saturday in front of his family, police and witnesses said.

Jose Barrera, a 50-year-old construction worker, had just returned from Costco with his wife and young daughter around 8 p.m.

He was standing by his car on 39th Street in Borough Park when he was struck by a Nissan sedan, police said.

“I hear some loud sound, like hit something,” one witness told WCBS-TV.

Barrera was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the 21-year-old man driving the Nissan lost control of the vehicle and crashed into Barrera.

The driver stayed at the scene and was taken into custody on suspicion of DWI. Police said he was later released but the investigation is ongoing.

Barrera’s widow, Araceli Sanchez, told 1010 WINS that she wants justice for her husband. When told the man who hit her husband had not been charged, she said, “How dare they.”

“It cannot be they are free after killing my husband,” she said.
