CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) --  A top aide to former Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has pleaded guilty in connection with a federal corruption probe.

Richard ``Rob'' Walker pleaded guilty in federal court in Central Islip on Wednesday to obstruction of justice. Walker's attorney told Newsday his client accepts responsibility for his conduct.

Prosecutors say the 43-year-old Walker accepted $5,000 from a contractor who was performing work for the county in 2014. They say he later urged the contractor to conceal the payment after learning the U.S. attorney's office had opened a grand jury investigation into potential corruption in Nassau County government.

Mangano and his wife are awaiting sentencing after being convicted of unrelated federal corruption charges in March.
