NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A New York City child care worker is facing charges.

Jacques Edwards, 55, works at the Nicholas Scoppetta Children's Center on First Ave near East 29th Street in Kips Bay, Manhattan. He allegedly shoved a 6-year-old boy's head into a file cabinet at the foster care facility.

Edwards was hired by ACS four years ago. In 1981, he was convicted of murder in Brooklyn.

ACS says its hiring practices have changed since Edwards came aboard.

Lois has worked alongside Edwards for the past year.

"I didn't know at the time what was going on," she said, "His brother died a couple of weeks ago, I don't know it could be the tension from that. Which isn't right, we have to deal with these kids regardless."

Edwards had been in prison for 28 years.
