NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is hunting for a woman who was initially thought to have stabbed a man in his stomach on a subway train near the Times Square station around 5 p.m. Friday, police confirmed to 1010 WINS.

Police say a man stagged off the subway at 42nd Street and Eight Avenue claiming he'd been stabbed by a woman with blue hair, leading transit workers to call authorities.

Soon, however, the investigation suggested that the woman might have been defending herself and that the guy might have been responsible for his own injury because he had a sharp object in his pocket.

A police spokesman said an argument on a southbound E train escalated into violence at 5 p.m. Friday.

The incident happened on a southbound E train.

The police are still investigating and are still in search of the blue-haired woman.
