East Village Fire Leaves 1 Dead

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- One man was killed early Sunday and two others were injured in a fire in an East Village apartment building.

The fire broke out shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday in the six-story walkup building at 244 E. 7th St., the FDNY told 1010 WINS.

The blaze claimed the life of one man, and at least two others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The man who died was identified as Barry Allen, 71, of the East 7th Street building.

The blaze broke out on the first floor of a multi-unit building, the FDNY said. The flames were confined to the rear apartment, where the victim was found dead, the FDNY said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation in the midday hours Sunday.
