NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man in a wheelchair and an off-duty police officer were involved in a shooting in Brooklyn early Sunday.

Police said the man in the wheelchair fired a gun towards a house on East 43rd Street in East Flatbush at around 3 a.m. An off-duty officer near the home witnessed the shooting and fired back, hitting the suspect in the hip.

The 30-year-old shooter was then transported to Brookdale Hospital where he was listed in stable condition in police custody.

No other injuries were reported but the officer was taken to Methodist Hospital for evaluation.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

It’s unclear what prompted the man to begin shooting at the home.

The investigation is ongoing.
