NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A dump truck driver left the scene after striking and killing a cyclist in Harlem early Saturday morning, police and witnesses said.

The 25-year-old man was hit in the intersection at East 125th Street and First Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

Police said the driver of the dump truck made an illegal left turn towards the Willis Avenue Bridge, which connects Manhattan and the Bronx, before striking the man.

He was rushed to Harlem Hospital but didn’t survive his injuries. He has not been identified.

He is the 28th cyclist killed by a vehicle on New York City streets in 2019—more than double the number last year.

Police said the driver of the gray dump truck took off after hitting the man. It’s unclear if he knew he had his someone.

Investigators are combing the area for surveillance video as they search for the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
