Dueling Rallies Outside City Hall As Council Mulls Air BnB Legislation

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Legislation is being introduced in the city council regarding Air BnB.

It's always a touchy issue, depending on where you stand -- or reside, as the case may be.

The measure would require Air BnB and other such companies to disclose the addresses and other host information to the city's office of special enforcement.

"This is about the landlords who warehouse units, who take rent regulated units off the market, and rent them out illegally," bill sponsor Carlina Rivera said.

The city wants to be able to crack down on illegal commercial hotel rentals, protect affordable housing, and keep neighborhoods safe.

"I'm concerned that they're going to take our addresses and basically target us because they know that we're hosts, and they're trying to get rid of us," one woman said.

Opponents say such a law would jeopardize the future of home-sharing and threaten the privacy of New Yorkers who are just trying to make some extra money.
