Despite Concerns About Trump, NYC Tourism Sees Spike In Visitors

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York City tourism agencies crunched the numbers and found that the Big Apple drew a record number of tourists in 2017, with 62.8-million, an increase of 2.3-million over 2016.

It found international visitors were a big part of that increase at 13.1-million, the opposite of what the city projected a year ago, fearing tourists would stay away after Donald Trump took office.

The Daily News reported, that following the 2016 election, tourism agency NYC & Company predicted the city would lose 300,000 international visitors. The city's 'New York City: Welcoming The World' campaign appears to have had the opposite effect.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said the numbers are a testament to the strength of our tourism sector and the values of our city.
