NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Family and friends fear the worst as the search continues for a missing New York City cab driver.

They say 56-year-old Yumain "Kenny" Chow left his cab on 86th Street near the East River and vanished on May 11.

Family members say he was experiencing financial hardship, including a $700,000 mortgage that he took out in 2011 for a taxi medallion and was now unable to pay. His his wife was recently diagnosed with cancer and his daughter had to return home to their native Burma because they couldn't afford for her to go to college.

"I hope my brother comes home safely," Chow's brother, Richard, said.

In the last six months, at least four for-hire drivers have committed suicide, some over financial concerns.

"We don't want to be here talking about the possibility of another driver brother gone too soon," Bhairavi Desai of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance said.
