De Blasio Tells Cops To Stop Arrests For Public Pot Smoking, Issue Summonses Instead

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Smoke em if you got em?

Mayor Bill de Blasio says he wants the NYPD to stop arresting people for smoking pot in public and hand out summonses instead.

The mayor already directed the NYPD to issue summonses for possession, now he's ordering the same for smoking it in public, but Frank isn't high on the idea.

"I don't smoke at all, so me personally, I wouldn't want nobody smoking weed around me. I don't even like people smoking cigarettes around me," he said.

Sally from the Bronx thinks it will encourage more criminal activity, but said she has faith in the mayor.

"Well he's a mayor, he's a married man, he's a family man, so if that's we he think, I think we should go for it, we should give it a try," she said.

The change is in response to racial disparities in pot arrest, there was no word as to when it would take effect.
