De Blasio’s Car Share Program Expected To Eliminate Hundreds Of Parking Spots

May 31, 2018 - 8:34 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a car share program Thursday, that would allow dozens of people use a single car.

It's a 2 year pilot program that will designate parking spots for cars in a sharing plan, but also eliminate hundreds of spaces.

"For the first time ever, the City is setting aside dedicated parking spots to expand access to carshare programs," said Mayor de Blasio. "For every vehicle in a carshare program, up to twenty households can forgo the need to own a car, fighting congestion and making our air cleaner. We're also bringing more carshare options to NYCHA residents to help them get around, so we can continue building the fairest big city in America."

This comes a day after the mayor urged state lawmakers to renew permission for the city to maintain speed cameras near city schools. He also anounced that speed cameras and a redesign are coming to a deadly intersection in Park Slope.
