Cynthia Nixon slams ‘anti-Semitism’ mailer distributed by Democratic Party

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Cynthia Nixon is calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state’s Democratic Party to apologize for a mailer accusing her of being anti-Semitic.

“The mailers that Governor Cuomo and the NY State Democratic Patry have send out are not only an attack on my family, but on all New Yorkers,” Nixon tweeted Sunday. “At a time when anti-Semitic, Islamophobic, and other hate crimes are on the rise, it’s sickening to exploit people’s real fears like this.”

The mailers arrived at voters homes on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, with a photo of Nixon and the words “anti-Semitism.”

Cuomo’s spokeswoman Lis Smith said the governor did not approve the mailing or have any knowledge of it.

New York State Democratic committee executive Geoff Berman quickly apologized for the material on Twitter.

“Let me be very clear: This mailer was a mistake and is inappropriate and is not the tone the Democratic Party should set,” he wrote. “It will not happen again.”

Nixon, who is not Jewish, noted that her two oldest children with ex-husband Dann Mozes are being raised in the Jewish faith.
