NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A cyclist was struck and killed by an SUV in Queens on Sunday—the latest cyclist killed in what has been an especially deadly year.

The 60-year-old man was hit by a Ford Explorer in front of 329 Cross Bay Blvd. in Broad Channel around 2:40 p.m., police said.

He was taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Images from the scene show the Explorer with a dented hood and broken windshield. The man’s crippled silver bicycle is seen on the ground beside it.

A preliminary investigation found no criminality.

A resident told the Daily News that locals had been pushing for a stoplight on Cross Bay Boulevard for years.

The man is the 23rd cyclist killed on city streets this year—more than double the number killed all of last year, according to the Daily News. Two people driving motorized e-bikes have also been killed this year.
