Cuomo Vows To Lead Citizen Fleet Against Offshore Drilling In New York

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Not gonna happen; that was the message from Gov. Andrew Cuomo to President Donald Trump about offshore drilling off the coast of New York.

Cuomo bashed the Trump administration's plans for offshore drilling. He's proposed ways to protect New York's coastal waterways and economies.

"You better be prepared to run that pipe to Virginia, because it's not gonna run to the state of New York," he said.

The governor has devised legislation to prohibit leases for oil and gas exploration outside of New York City, in the Hudson, and Long Island. As 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported, Cuomo is taking a page from Winston Churchill's play book, whose local boats saved troops in World War II.

"I am going to commission a citizen fleet to go out and interfere with their federal effort," he said.

Cuomo said he will lead the charge.
