Westchester County has now lost 1,227 residents to COVID-19, Latimer said. A total of 31,384 people have tested positive for the virus.

While Latimer called each new death a “tragedy,” he said Monday’s statistics were “encouraging.”

The county is currently tracking 3,377 active cases — a number that has dropped “dramatically” from the peak of around 11,000 a month ago, he said.

Fewer than 500 people in the county are hospitalized with the virus, he added.
