NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Five people were struck, one fatally, in a drive-by shooting in Brownsville on Wednesday night.

Police were working three seperate crime scenes on Bristol Street and Dumont Ave after a Hundai SUV pulled up and someone started spraying bullets everywhere.

Five people were hit, two were believed to be innocent bystanders -- they were hit nearly 100 yards away.

Ken lives three houses down from the shooting where an 18-year-old man was killed by a shot to the stomach and a 21-year-old man was left critical by a shot to the head.

"I didn't hear anything hitting the house so I was, other than that I was alright," he said, "It was over a dozen (shots)."

Moments after the gunfire, cops got a 911 call about a hit-and-run involving an SUV that strufk a car and took off. Police have the SUV and are getting a warrant to search it. They believe it's connected to the shooting.

"That accident occurred in very close proximity to the shooting location, almost identically at the same time as the shooting," NYPD Dep. Chief Mike Kemper said.

Cops are looking at video and asking for the public's help. Assistant Chief Jeffrey Madrey had a message for anyone worried about cooperating.

"Rest assured, we are going to put extra resources out there," he said.

Of the survivors, one is in critical condition. Others were hit multiple times, but their injuries were not life threatening.

The massive police investigation was expected to last hours.
