Cops hunt for man wanted in West Village sex assault

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down a person of interest in connecton with the sexual assault of a woman in the West Village.

On Sunday March 10, at approximately 4:30 a.m., a man grabbed a 20-year-old woman as they passed each other on the staircase inside an apartment building in the vicinity of Grove Street and Bleecker Street. The woman yelled out for help at which time the man punched her in the face and shoved her against the wall before fondling her.

The man then fled the building. The victim suffered bruising to her face and was treated and released from a nearby hospital.

The person wanted for questioning is described as a dark complexioned male, 5'11" to 6'0" tall. He was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded coat and dark colored sneakers.
