NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A vicious beating, and possible sex assault has had Kew Gardens Hills residents on edge. It happened in broad daylight on Monday morning.

The victim, a 52-year-old woman, was beaten so badly that she wasn't able to speak to cops following the attack.

It was moments after she dropped a child off at school on Monday morning, that she was dragged into a stairwell on Kissena Boulevard, and attacked and possibly sexually assaulted.

The woman was found unconscious and bleeding at the bottom of the stairs. The incident has sent anger, fear, and shock through residents.

"I don't feel safe walking, not without at least my husband or some group of people. You know you've gotta be careful especially when you're a girl," one woman said.

On Wednesday, police released surveillance photos of a suspect, and announced a $10,000 reward in the case.

Captain Alyse Anders said robbery could have been a motive, but they are pretty sure the woman was sexually assaulted.

"We find this to be an extremely violent and random attack at a time of day you wouldn't normally see something like this," she said.

Police say the victim is still intubated, and unable to speak, but her condition is improving.
