NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police are searching for a man who posed as a good Samaritan before dragging a woman into a Brooklyn park and raped her on Saturday.

The 20-year-old woman was near Herzl Street and Dumont Avenue around 2:20 a.m. when the man approached her and helped her get her drunk girlfriend into a cab, police said.

He then offered to walk her home, but when she said no to sex, he grabbed her by the arm and dragged her into Betsy Head Park.

Police say he raped the woman before stealing her purse and taking off down Herzl Street.

Brownsville community leaders and residents held a rally at Betsy Head Park on Sunday to demand the mayor do more to keep women safe.

Community leader and public advocate candidate Tony Herbert told 1010 WINS that Mayor Bill de Blasio brags about crime being down but that rape is on the rise.

Herbert is pleading with the public for help in getting this predator off the streets.

"We don't ask folks to go out there and act as vigilantes, we don't want to encourage that," he said. "What we do want them to do is make that phone call so we can apprehend this individual and keep everybody safe."

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
