Construction Worker Killed By Falling Debris At Columbia University Building

A construction worker died Thursday afternoon in Upper Manhattan after reportedly being struck in the head by falling debris.

The worker, who has not been indentified, was hit by the debris in the courtyard of a Morningside Heights 13-story high-rise on Riverside Drive. The building, called the International House, is part of Columbia University.

WABC-TV reported that the debris was a piece of scaffolding that fell several floors. 

The victim was pronounced dead at St. Lukes Hospital, where he was transported following the accident. He was unconscious and unresponsive when first responders arrived, according to WNBC.

The NYPD and the New York City Department of Buildings are investigating.
