HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut’s annual “Sales Tax Free Week” will kick off on Sunday, with exemptions for many clothing and footwear items, Gov. Ned Lamont said Wednesday.

From Sunday, Aug. 16 through Saturday, Aug. 22, most clothing and footwear items under $100 will be exempt from Connecticut sales and use tax, Lamont said in a release.

“Having this tax-free holiday helps working families stretch their dollar a little bit more during the busy back-to-school season while giving businesses an extra boost to their bottom line,” he said in a statement. “This year, it will hopefully also help support some of our local businesses that continue to recover following the global health pandemic.”

Shoppers must social distance and wear face coverings inside stores, he noted.
