Congressman pushes to repair Staten island soccer field

March 22, 2019 - 1:25 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Congressman Max Rose and Staten Island Borough President James Oddo met with National Park Service officials Friday morning to push for repairs to Miller Field on Staten Island, so that this year’s soccer season can be saved.

In recent years, the park service blamed staffing shortages for Miller Field’s state of disrepair.

It’s happened against this year and Max Rose decided to try to fix them in time for soccer season by the end of April.

He admits the government shutdown didn’t make anything easier.

“First problem is the short term; I want this field, these fields open, exactly when they are supposed to get open. That is what I am committed to. I will mow the lawns myself if necessary,” Rose said, “But the second problem is that we want to engage in long-term planning so we don’t put any families through stress next year.”

Rose says while they are not ready to pop the champagne to celebrate an agreement, he is hoping it is just days away to get the repairs complete.
