NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio discussed plans Wednesday to build new prisons in four boroughs to replace the complex on Rikers Island.

City officials laid out concepts of the designs at the meeting, showing the gleaming, new buildings they plan to use to house inmates.

“We anticipate this will be a modern, humane jail system,” said Criminal Justice Director Elizabeth Glazer.

The projects goal is to reduce the stress of the prison experience for inmates and officers.

A representative for the city’s Department of Corrections said the improvements include “housing units that are better connected to both programming services and recreation.”
