CHICAGO (1010 WINS) -- The city of Chicago has filed a lawsuit against "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett for his "refusal to reimburse the City of Chicago for the cost of police overtime spent investigating his false police report on January 29, 2019," a city law department spokesman said late Thursday afternoon.

The city filed a civil complaint against Smollett -- who claimed he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack -- in Cook County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, "Defendant knew his attackers and orchestrated the purported attack himself. Later, when police confronted him with evidence about his attackers, he still refused to disclose his involvement in planning the attack."
