NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday has raised its health warning to a level 3, recommending that passengers steer clear of travel to Wuhan, China over coronavirus concerns.

The State Department's warning remains at a level 2 travel advisory, urging travelers to be cautious if heading to the area.

Previously, the State Department's website incorrectly posted that it had raised its travel advisory to a level 3, and later rescinded it.

Chinese authorities Thursday moved to lock down three cities with a combined population of more than 18 million in attempts to contain the deadly new virus that has sickened hundreds of people and now spread to other areas of the world.

The warning comes amid a busy travel period due to the Lunar New Year.
