CORONAVIRUS IN CONNECTICUT: Cases jump by 766, nearly 15K statewide as death toll reaches 868

    STAMFORD, CONN. (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Ned Lamont reported on Wednesday that there were 766 new positive cases of coronavirus.  This brings the state total to 14,755.

    The death toll jumped by 197 for a total of 868, he added.

    Hospitalizations increased by 129, for a total of 1,908.

    There were 4,302 patients tested for the virus. A total of 50,143 statewide, according to the governor.

    Fairfield County has the highest number of reported cases with a total of 6,480.

    Lamont also announced that he will be implementing software improvement that will speed up unemployment claims during the pandemic.

    The new software would shorten residents' wait period to one week or less.

    He also reported that the $600 additional weekly benefit in federal stimulus funds will begin on April 24.
