Captured: NYPD catches teen who escaped custody

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An 18-year-old escaped from NYPD custody Wednesday afternoon in Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood has been captured, police said.

The teen escaped just before 1 p.m. near Empire Blvd. and New York Ave. He was in the process of being arrested.

Police said the teen had a handcuff on one wrist. It is believed he fled into the subway.

The Sterling Street subway station, a 2 a 5 train stop, is near where the teen escaped.

Police were seen checking surveillance cameras and looking through garbage. The subway was also shut down temporarily.
