Bronx boy, 13, hospitalized after being shot in chest

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 13-year-old boy was shot in the chest Monday night in the Bronx.

The victim was found in a courtyard of the School of Science and Applied Learning on Prospect Avenue near East 179th Street in Crotona before 10:30 p.m.

Police are looking into whether the shooting is related to a series of cab robberies in the area in which the perpetrators took the drivers' cell phones, GPS units and cash.

They’re searching for a group of teen boys they believe are responsible for those crimes.

Police sources tell 1010 WINS that the victim was being looked as a possible suspect or person of interest with knowledge of these robberies.

He was taken to St. Barnabus with a police escort and is currently in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is ongong and police don't yet know if he was the intended victim.
