Bridal party attacked with sword inside New Jersey hotel

HARDYSTON, N.J. (1010 WINS/AP) -- Authorities say a dispute involving a bridal party and a hotel guest ended when the guest allegedly used a sword to threaten the women and slash the bride on the arm.
Carlos Mejia faces charges of aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and weapons counts following Saturday's altercation in Hardyston. It wasn't known Thursday if the 43-year-old New York City man has retained an attorney.
Authorities say Mejia approached the bridal party in a hotel hallway and asked for a cigarette. A verbal argument ensued and Mejia -- who witnesses say was yelling obscenities and threatening the bride -- eventually returned to his room.
The bride and her bridal party soon knocked on Mejia's door and yelled to him. Authorities say he emerged with the sword and began swinging it at the women, but eventually was disarmed by several hotel guests.
Mejia had no ties to the wedding. An affidavit says multiple witnesses at the hotel claim to have seen Mejia walking around with a sword prior to the altercation.

Mejia was interviewed by Hardyston Police who say he, "appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol."
The bride wasn't seriously injured.
